By now, everyone knows that having bad posture at work can wreak havoc on your health. Those with poor posture are probably already victims of spine pain, but it can get much worse than this. If you compromise your body’s alignment, pain can spread to other areas as well. The best way to prevent these issues is by improving your posture. This way, even if you have to sit at a desk all day at work, you won’t notice issues.

Sit Tall

The most obvious method of improving your posture at work is to sit up tall. Sit straight with your ears above your shoulders to reduce stress on your back, neck, and shoulders.

Have Your Chest Face the Right Way

When you are sitting at your desk, your chest should be facing your computer monitor, not the keyboard. Make sure that it is angled correctly and you will notice an improvement.

Uncross Your Legs

The simple act of uncrossing your legs and placing your feet on the ground will let your spine straighten out. In fact, this position keeps your spine straighter even if you work all day, helping to reduce the risk of spine deformation.

Pull Your Shoulder Blades Back

Check what your shoulders are doing and draw them back. You won’t want to stay in this position while working, but should make a conscious effort to bring your shoulder blades back whenever you are bending over your desk and rounding your shoulders. Eventually, it will balance out.

Take Breaks To Move

Perhaps the most important way to help your back at work doesn’t actually have to do with your posture, but rather movement. Be sure that you take breaks throughout the day to get up and move around. This lets your muscles relax and reduces pressure on the back and neck. At least every half hour or hour, get up and stretch or take a walk around the office for a minute.
