The most common reason people see us for the first time is because they are pain. Whether it was caused by an accident or a chronic problem, our top priority is to make you comfortable again. Relief care is the first step in a three-phase chiropractic treatment plan and it might just be your favorite when you are finally free of the discomfort that had been plaguing you prior to coming to our office.
The spine of patients in Phase 1 is very unstable so we employ lighter force techniques to gently begin moving the spine into proper alignment. This instability can make it difficult for the spine to stay in its corrected position so it is important that you follow the treatment schedule as well as any restrictions that Dr. Sandness places on your activities.
The 3 main goals of relief care are:
- Pain relief
- Spinal stability
- Spinal balance
As these goals are achieved, healing can begin in the area of concern. Methods used during this phase include:
- Myofascial release
- Trigger point therapy
- Instrumented assisted soft tissue mobilization
- Ultrasound
- Electrical muscle stimulation
- Spinal manipulation (adjustment)
Phase 1 care will require that you visit us 2 to 3 times per week for approximately 3 to 6 weeks. Treatment during this phase will last for about 3 to 6 weeks.
