If you are runner experiencing knee pain, the problem might not actually be in your knee at all. When this band is irritated and inflamed, the pain will actually appear on the outside of the knee.
Common causes of ITBS include:
- Weakness in the hip abductors
- Weak core muscles
- Increasing mileage to quickly
- Addition of track or interval training
- Running on a cambered road or other uneven surface
- Tightness of the Iliotibial band
Does any of this sound familiar? If you suspect that you may have ITBS, your first step should be to rest. In many cases, just taking a break from running may be all that you need to experience relief.
For cases that don’t resolve with rest, we are here to help. Chiropractic care can bring natural relief and healing from sports injuries like ITBS. In addition to cryotherapy, we can perform Active Release Technique (ART) and therapeutic massage to break up scar tissue and loosen and stretch the Iliotibial band. We have also seen patients experience relief through chiropractic adjustments of the lower back, hip, pelvis, knee and ankle.
Don’t let ITBS keep you from hitting the pavement. The sooner you visit us, the sooner we can help you to feel good enough to run again. Call to schedule an appointment today.
